SERVING AS KAY AREA PRESIDENT

Gavin Zubiate, a sophomore at Jetmore-Hodgeman County High School- has been selected to serve as Area 5 KAY President. Gavin’s selection took place at the Area 5 Regional Conference on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

The Kansas Association for Youth (KAY) is a character-building, leadership training, service organization directed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. This nationally acclaimed organization provides students an opportunity to learn to assume their citizenship responsibilities and to enrich their personalities through well-organized programs. These programs emphasize four areas of service: school, community, nation and world.

The KAY program is available to any KSHSAA member school students. The local organization is under the direction of the school principal who, in turn, appoints a sponsor(s) to lead and guide the club program.  The Hodgeman County KAY program is sponsored by Mrs. Katie Olson.

Gavin has served the Jetmore-Hodgeman County High School KAY Club as the Treasurer. Selected for his dedication and years of experience with the KAY program, he will serve the KAY Clubs of Southwestern Kansas.  Among his duties will be to attend a training meeting in Topeka, write up to three newsletters for the clubs he serves, attend KAY Leadership Camp, July 29-August 2, 2024 and help conduct the 2024 Area 5 KAY Regional Conference.

“We are honored to have Gavin Zubiate serve as a KAY Area President”, said Sarah Smith, KSHSAA Assistant Executive Director and KAY State Director. “His strong background in the KAY program, his proven leadership and enthusiasm for serving others will serve as a valuable motivator for the KAY Clubs of Southwestern Kansas.

The KSHSAA proudly offers the KAY program to Kansas students, through its member schools, as a means to “make a world of difference” for current and future generations.
